The color of springtime is flowers!
Those of you who love gardening will fall in love with Sofia’s challenge this week: Floral. She is most interested in how and why we capture flowers or how we process the images we have. You will find the most wonderful inspiration with her guidance. Is spring just beginning near you? Have you recently been to a favorite botanical garden? Maybe Sofia will inspire you to think of floral in other ways.
We have just spent two weeks in Italy, Turkey and Greece. Flowers are something I am always on the lookout for, but this time they presented themselves a little differently.
In Pompeii, I immediately noticed the abundance of poppies in bloom. To tell the truth I can’t help but to think of this once thriving city without sadness. In one night, the volcano, Mt. Vesuvius took the lives of an entire city as it slept. It is humbling to walk through its streets with echos of the past, and to me the poppies were symbolic of the lives once lived.
In Mykonos, Greece we discover burros who carry both people and supplies up the steep hills. This one was done for the day. It’s owner was getting ready to take its baskets off, so it was a quick shot but will remain a nice memory of our time in Mykonos.
Like many European cities, shopping is most fun in the inviting alleys. flowers seem to be the lure, always.
Santorini? Certainly a favorite village to explore. The blue rooftops of the churches with the ocean views are stunning, but down this particular alley, white bougainvillea seems to be the perfect accent.
And in Crete a kitten enjoys the city gardens as much as the rest of us.
